Appraisal and Repair of Timber Structures, Second edition covers
The book appeals to engineers, surveyors and architects involved in work on both historic and more modern timber structures. In addition, the sections on appraisal, load testing, building relocation and report writing are applicable to all forms of construction, not just timber. The book is of value to practitioners working on an existing building for the first time, as well as a reference book for more experienced professionals.
Andrew Lawrence is the leading timber specialist at Arup, a member of the Eurocode Timber Design Code Committee and Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor of Timber Engineering at Cambridge University. His projects include the Metz Pompidou with Shigeru Ban and The Smile with Alison Brooks Architects. He is also a CARE Conservation Accredited Engineer, specialising in the assessment and repair of existing and historic structures.
Peter Ross joined Arup in 1958. Since 1986 he has specialised in the assessment of historic building fabric, and timber as a construction material. In 1990-94 he was Technical Secretary for the draft timber Eurocode. He has also written four books as principal author and was the structural engineer for the new roof over the South Transept of York Minster, following the fire in 1984, one of the largest green oak roofs of modern times.
